Tips 4 running in the rain, By Jeff Robins 12-6-2018

As it is rain season you'll find yourself debating on getting wet to get in the miles. Even I have trouble getting started in the rain. But, I can also say that once I get going it is no less than liberating and it may be beneficial. 

Here are some benefits of running in the rain. 
  1. The air is fresh and cleaner
  2. The air is cooler allowing you to push a little harder and keep from over heating
  3. Because the ground is wet you are forced to focus on your footing a little more
  4. Depending on your air quality, I believe there is a rain water touching skin connection benefit
  5. ​Running regularly is a form of a habit. Breaking that barrier of running in the rain simply strengthens that habit giving you a feeling to toughness and self confidence​ ​

Now for some tips on running in the rain safely. 
  1. Be aware of where and how your landing as the ground is more slippery
  2. Although sweating is really good for you, don't dress too warmly. Layers that can be removed is ideal
  3. Have a change of clothing ready for after the run
  4. Just because it is raining doesn't mean your not sweating. Make sure your are hydrating if it is a longer run. Including for post run
  5. Wear a hat to keep rain off your face
  6. ​Use a anti chafing product like Body Glide if you need it
  7. Make yourself visual with lights and reflective gear

Lastly, have fun! Kids love splashing in the rain and so can you!
