Cross Country FUND Event

DETAILS

XC PROGRAM: The New Basin Blues Running Group has provided newly purchased running shoes for high school cross country student athletes for the last 7 to 8 years. The high school program each year provides a full spectrum event where the student athletes are exposed to adult runners, served breakfast after a run on mountain trails, and provided with a great deal of positive re-enforcement for being runners in a non-running world.

OTHER ORGANIZATION BENEFITTED:

Through The San Fernando Valley Partnership organization Chicanas In Control And Succeeding (CHICAS) was established for teen aged girls since today they face difficult challenges their parents never had, including the pressure of growing up too fast. Everyday, they are bombarded with mixed messages about health, beauty, education, sex, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Theses messages come to them through movies, music videos, advertisements, and friends. It can be hard to filter through all of the misinformation they receive and get the facts straight. Together with the youth leader Joel the girls, for the first year ran on the trails with the High School Cross Country runners.

SPECIAL MEDIA COVERAGE THANKS

KSA Magazine was on hand at the run with the kids and at Runnergy for shoe fittings in store. Covering the event was Marina Aghakhanian and Sanders Trent.
